You got the eSIM by email, the suitcase is half packed, and your iPhone is asking whether you are sure you want to add a cellular plan. Before you call the nephew who is good with phones: installing an eSIM on an iPhone really does take just a few minutes, and most of the hiccups along the way come from one wrong tap. In this guide we go step by step through the three install routes, the settings worth getting right, and the one mistake you must not make.

Second, connect to stable Wi-Fi. The installation itself requires internet, which leads to the most important rule in this guide: install the eSIM at home, before your flight, not at the destination airport with no connection. With most packages, installing in advance does not start using up your days — activation happens only when you connect to a network at the destination — but it is worth confirming this in the instructions that came with your package.
The easiest route is one-click installation. If you opened the email with your eSIM details directly on the iPhone, look for the direct install button. Tapping it opens an iOS screen offering to activate an eSIM — confirm, wait a few seconds for the installation to finish, and that is it. Nothing to scan and nothing to type.
Got a QR code? Open it on a different screen — a computer, a tablet, or the phone of whoever is sitting next to you — because you cannot scan a code displayed on the same device. On the iPhone go to Settings, Cellular, Add eSIM, and choose to use a QR code. Point the camera and iOS recognizes the code and starts the installation on its own. Newer iOS versions have a nice shortcut: save the code as an image, long-press it, and choose Add eSIM.
The third route is manual entry, in case the code will not scan. On the same Add eSIM screen, choose to enter the details manually, and copy in the SM-DP+ address and the activation code that appear in the email below the QR code. It sounds technical, but in practice it is just copying two lines of text and nothing more.

ביעד נכנסים להגדרות, סלולרי, לוחצים על הקו החדש ומוודאים ששלושה דברים קורים: הקו מופעל, הנתונים הסלולריים מוגדרים עליו, ונדידת נתונים — Data Roaming — דלוקה עבורו. הסעיף האחרון מפתיע הרבה נוסעים: ברוב חבילות ה-eSIM לחו"ל הנדידה חייבת להיות דלוקה, אחרת פשוט לא תהיה גלישה.
If after a few minutes there is still no signal, toggle Airplane Mode on and off, or pick a network manually via Network Selection in the line's settings. In most cases that is all it takes. And if something still will not budge, our support is available even when you are already at the destination.
An eSIM QR code is in most cases single-use. If you delete the eSIM from your iPhone — by accident, or because you thought it would fix a glitch — you usually cannot reinstall it from the same code. So the rule is simple: do not delete. If the line is acting up, turn it off and on, toggle Airplane Mode, restart the device — but stay away from the delete button.
Even after the vacation there is no reason to rush to delete: a switched-off line uses nothing and bothers no one, so just leave it off in Settings until the next trip. And when you plan your next destination, the up-to-date prices are always on the site — all that is left is to say SIMM me.
